A Glove Seen Around The World
From Sex and The City and The Devil Wears Prada to Younger and Emily in Paris- Patricia Field is well known as the legendary costume designer behind some of the most influential fashion shows and movies of the past 30 years. Before and alongside this, however, just as many knew her from her roots as a New York City designer, curator, and owner of the ‘Patricia Field’ and ‘ARTFashion’. She has built a name for herself through the curation of an iconic store filled with alternative styles and artistry. Of which, attracted many creatives and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Her flamboyant designs and devotion to fashion made her name synonymous with style well before entering into film and television.
When Patricia Field went looking for a glove for Lily Collins’ character in Emily in Paris, she had the backing of 50 years working as a designer to help her to achieve her vision. And achieve it she did, after fruitlessly searching for a glove that would work for season two’s wardrobe, Field could not find the piece that fit within her concept for Emily’s costume design. So she shifted her search. With the show about to start filming and the deadline for costumes fast approaching, Field began looking for someone that could produce the exact glove she had in mind before time ran out.
Enter our founder, Melissa Meister. Through the friend of a friend, a call was made and Field asked Meister if Seymoure Gloves had the ability to create a custom glove. Not just any glove, if we, at Seymoure, could produce a selection of colors to be handmade and shipped off to Paris under an incredible deadline. The answer was yes and thus ensued a flurried rush of fabric swatches being sent over, designs made and modified, and a small batch of sustainably made gloves shaped to fit Lily Collins’ petite hand being sent to Paris.
The gloves were a perfect fit and the Love Your Look collaboration was born. Comprised of eight uniquely colored fingerless driving gloves called the Emily Glove and three Leather Sleeves dubbed ‘armwear’ by Patricia Field, the collaboration is a beautiful melding of Field’s legendary personal style, the elevated costuming for Emily in Paris, and the ethical artistry of Seymoure Gloves.
The glove that started it all, the Emily Glove is a fingerless driving glove features beautifully crafted ethically sourced Italian leather handcrafted in the United States. The glove is unlined so that it can be worn comfortably throughout the year and showcases cut-out details along the knuckle in addition to a stunning peek-a-boo snap-button closure at the wrist. The Emily Glove is a stylish and season-less accessory delicately crafted and made to slide across you and mold to you like a second skin.
Worn by Patricia Field on an almost daily basis, the Leather Sleeve can be worn on its own or paired with the Emily Glove for an avant-garde styling approach. Featuring a sustainably acquired Italian Leather made slowly and artfully in the United States that extends from the wrist to the elbow, a slightly relaxed fit, and scrunched look that allows for increased comfort and movability, the Leather Sleeve is a unique and stunning glove accessory.
