The quest for the perfect dust bag began in Los Angeles, where I collaborated with one of the city's premier celebrity seamstresses. While the initial muslin prototype was impeccable, I knew there was an opportunity to infuse more of SEYMOURE's vision into these essential accessories. As fate would have it, my planned trip to Bali opened a door to something extraordinary.
Bali, with its rich textile heritage, revealed itself as a treasure trove of artistic tradition. Walking through local markets and artisan workshops, I found myself mesmerized by the intricate IKAT patterns, vegetable-dyed yarns, and traditional Batik fabrics that tell stories of centuries-old craftsmanship. It was the hand-woven IKAT fabric that captured my heart – its texture and character perfectly aligned with SEYMOURE's dedication to exceptional quality.
While working with a small shop of skilled female Balinese artisans, we began transforming this vision into reality. I had the privilege of experiencing their craft firsthand, sitting at a traditional weaving machine where the weaver's body becomes one with the loom, secured to maintain precise tension between thread and fabric. The complexity of their work is astounding – hundreds of threads orchestrated into mesmerizing patterns, each throw of the wooden shuttle building the design thread by thread. Some of the more intricate pieces can take up to a month to complete, a patient labor of love passed down through generations.
This collaboration brings together two worlds: the European luxury craftsmanship that SEYMOURE is known for, and the centuries-old weaving traditions of Bali. While SEYMOURE may not have a hundred years of history, our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship rivals that of any established couture house or atelier.
